CLARE BOWLS CLUB

ETIQUETTE & RULES

Clare Bowls Club Etiquette

Turn up in good time whether playing at home or away.

Wear the correct clothing.

Do not smoke on the green or in undesignated areas.

Turn off mobile phones.

Shake hands with opponents before and after the game.

Be quiet and stand still behind the mat or the head when someone is about to bowl.

Know where your bowls are and be ready to play them.

Watch the bowler playing before you, so that you know what line to take (or not!).

Move onto the mat from the left hand side and move off from the right.

Be aware of the bowler on the adjacent rink and let them bowl first.

Do not follow your bowl down the rink, stay on the mat until it has stopped.

Listen to the Skip's instructions before and after you bowl.

Acknowledge good play (Your team's or the opponent's).

Do not complain about 'Wicks', you turn will come.  (i.e., a glancing deflection where a delivered bowl bounces or rubs off another bowl (or the jack)).

Keep complaints to yourself and if necessary speak to your Skip - quietly.

Walk down the centre of the rink when changing ends, away from neighbouring rinks.

Do not walk around the Green when people are playing.

Do not interfere with shot decisions or measuring if it is not your job (No. 2 in Triples, No. 3 in Rinks).

Winning lead places mat for the next end, losing lead gathers the bowls up.

If you are scoring ensure the scoreboard is correct regarding shots for and against and ends played.

Help to put the equipment away but be aware of games still being played.

Pay your Skip your Green fee (right money helps).

Offer to buy your opponent a drink after the game.
